This tensile fabric structure was required to form the roof cover of a brand new gym and spar in the luxury 5 star hotel, The Radisson, situated on the sea front, just a stone’s throw away from the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

The main technical difficulty of this project resulted from the irregularly shaped perimeter onto which the tensile fabric roof had to be installed and sealed. The fabric needed to be precisely engineered and shaped to fit into every curve and corner of an existing structure to form an exact roof shape for the Radisson Gym and Spar.

With a parking garage and guest’s room windows surrounding the project area, Tension Structures and the architects decided that a double inverted cone, incorporating a drainage system through the base ring of the cone structure, would be the best option - in this way, no views would be inhibited or feet get wet.

The design was not only practical in terms of the given location but the fabric structure provided a very pleasing look and feel, letting in natural light and giving a relaxing ambiance for the Radisson guests to be pampered.
